Course programme for exchange students
International exchange students can generally choose from the entire course programme of the Faculty of Law. Students receive an up-to-date course overview for the coming semester a few months before the semester begins (approx. June for the winter semester and approx. December for the summer semester). In addition, the current courses can be accessed via KLIPS 2.0.
Courses on German law are generally held in German.
In addition to the large number of courses in German, which are also of interest to our exchange students, the University of Cologne offers courses in English as part of the CUSL (Certificate in United States' Law) programme. In addition, courses are also offered in English in the specialisation programmes (e.g. by the Institute of Air Law, Space Law and Cyber Law or the Academy for European Human Rights Protection).
Furthermore, working groups are offered that are specifically aimed at international students. These take place in German, but it is noted that the students' language skills may be limited.
Please refer to the relevant course catalogue to find out whether further courses are offered in English in the respective semester.
The dates and deadlines for taking courses via KLIPS 2.0 can be found on the KLIPS 2.0 Support Team website.
Working Groups
These courses are especially designed for international LL.M. and exchange students. The courses take place in German, but take into account the limited language skills of the students. Students can receive 6 ECTS credits for a working group upon passing the exam.
The following events are normally offered, but the range may differ each semester:
- German legal terminology: 20-hour block event during the International Orientation Week (possible changes are announced)
