Registration is not a prerequisite for attending a lecture. In principle, you can attend any lecture without prior registration. Exceptions to this are working groups (Arbeitsgemeinschaften) and events with a limited number of participants for which the lecturer requires registration. In this case, registration usually takes place via the respective chair.

However, we generally recommend that you register for all lectures you wish to attend via KLIPS 2.0. You can find information on the application periods here.

Some lecturers make their lecture materials available in ILIAS. In order to be able to download these materials, it is necessary to register for the lecture in KLIPS beforehand (during the application periods). Please log in with your s-mail-account.

After you have registered for the courses there, you can access the materials for the lecture in ILIAS the next day.

If the lecturer provides the materials in another way (homepage of the department, e-mail, etc.), it is not necessary to register via KLIPS.

If it happens (especially with LL.M. students) that the registration does not work right away, please first make sure that your s-mail-account is working (e.g. webmail login) and that the password is correct.

If you are still unable to register during the application periods, please contact the ZIB Jura or KLIPS Support, stating your matriculation number and your degree programme. The allocation will then be made manually for you.

In order to take part in written examinations, prior registration via KLIPS is required.

Unless otherwise announced by the Examination Office, the registration and deregistration period for written examinations always ends seven days before the examination date.

The respective lecturer decides whether and to what extent an oral examination is offered. He/she will also tell you how to register for the oral examination. Therefore, we would like to ask you to contact the respective chair or institute as early as possible.

For examinations conducted by the Chair of US-American Law, it is not possible to register via KLIPS. Instead, please send an e-mail to us-recht(at)uni-koeln.de stating your name, your matriculation number and the examinations you would like to take. Please also state that you are an exchange student.

The examinations normally take place at the end of the semester.
