2. Can you already give me information about the probability of a placement in the current application process?

No, the application process remains confidential until the end of the procedure. In particular, no binding acceptance or confirmation can be given in advance.

3. What does the LL.M. cost for lawyers who have graduated abroad?

A semester fee must be paid to the university each semester. This varies depending on the semester. As a rule, the costs amount to around €300. 4. How are examinations recognised?

According to §§ 11a, 11b PO LLM, previous achievements can generally be recognised.

Please note the following:

  • A certificate of achievement must have been obtained in the relevant area. Certificates of attendance or similar are not sufficient.
  • The subject attended must correspond to a compulsory module or (competence) module. This means that there must be no significant difference in terms of content.
  • Transcripts of records (or certificates) to be credited must be submitted by e-mail as a scan.

Please send the completed form"Antrag auf Anerkennung LL.M. für im Ausland graduierte Juristinnen und Juristen" together with the required supporting documents to llm-zibuni-koeln.de. You can find the form on this website (top right under the heading ‘Master's thesis and degree’).

5. I have taken an exam that is not displayed on Klips 2.0. What can I do?

There may be delays in correcting written examinations. If the examination was taken in a different examination format (e.g. as an oral examination), please contact llm-zibSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de after 10 days, stating the date of the examination, the name of the examiner and your matriculation number or the certificate of achievement, if you have it.

6. I would like to start my Master's thesis. How do I go about this?

You must find a supervisor for your Master's thesis yourself. The supervisor will then register the thesis with ZIB-Jura. Please use the form ‘Mitteilung Thema und Ausgabe’, which you can find on our website, and send it to llm-zibSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de.

7. How long does my Master's thesis have to be, how long do I have?

The Master's thesis should not exceed 60,000 characters (excluding spaces). We recommend discussing the details with your examiner.

According to § 12 PO LLM, the processing time is 4 months (from the date of issue). In individual cases, the Examination Board may grant a maximum extension of 6 weeks. For this, the student must submit an appropriately justified application (§ 21 Pragraph 4 PO LLM). Please use the form "Antrag auf Fristverlängerung der Masterarbeit"‘Application for an extension of the Master's thesis Deadline’. You can find the form on this website (top right under the heading ‘Master's thesis and degree’).

8. I have earned more than the required number of credits in some competence units. How does this affect my grade?

Only the subjects with the best examination results are automatically included in the overall grade. The additional subjects are noted on your transcript as ‘additional courses taken’, but are not included in your final grade.

The situation is different if you have taken a subject from a foreign competence unit. This only ever counts as an additionally attended course.

9. Can I still submit my language certificate after the application Deadline?

Unfortunately, documents submitted after the application deadline can no longer be considered in the selection process. Therefore, you cannot submit your language certificate later. All application documents must be uploaded to Klips by the application deadline. We wish you every success and look forward to receiving your application!

10. I would like to request my certificate. How does this work?

Please fill in the form ‘Notenübersicht’, which you can find on our website, and send it to llm-zibSpamProtectionuni-koeln.de . At this point: ZIB-Jura wishes you a hearty congratulations!
